    Tactical help

Hi, I need your opinions. Next weekend I'm competing in race which is something like duathlon, but it's not. It's consisted of 18km mountainbiking and 4km running (also offroad). My question is: is it better to wear SPD shoes on cycling, and then after cycling change them with running shoes, or I should wear running shoes on bike too? I'd like more to change shoes, but I don't know, if I do that, can I lose too much time (if mtb part of the race would be consisted of groups, so my group can leave me in changing shoes)? Thank you all in advance, I hope we're going to find answer together

The transition time loss in shoe change time is likely to be made up in each section having the optimum shoes. Have you practiced SPD to running shoe transitions, or timed them?

I agree w/ Rocky. Practice the transition. You have time to figure it out but I don't think riding with sneakers is the best answer to save time in the T. If you're used to clipping in and riding, you'll be much faster than going with the sneakers.

Tie up your sneakers and get them so you can just slip them on with a little force and be off. Start undoing your bike shoes as you head to the transition so you can slip them off before you even unclip or at least they'll be loose after you do unclip and take them off.

Watch a couple triathlon youtube vids on transitions. Might give you some ideas and techniques.

Pickup some of the triathlon shoe lace locks for the running shoes. And if you have cycling shoes that combine laces and Velcro straps, whip the laces out and just use the Velcro straps for this event.
