    Suggestions Please for 2010

I started racing in 2009 after quite a long time off a bike. I had a great time and would like to complete 8-10 races in 2010.

During the off season, I would like to make some changes to my bike. I have an El Mariachi in stock form for the most part. I have upgraded the wheels to Stan's Arch and DT Swiss 370 hubs. Also installed a twist shifter and X0 RD.

Most of the courses I ride around here are XC, with few technical sections. Uphills are steep and short as are the downhill sections.

    Here is my current build:

rame El Mariachi 29'er, True Temper OX Platinum Main Triangle
Fork Salsa CroMoto Grande, True Temper OX Platinum
    Headset Chris King
Handlebar Salsa Moto Ace 11-Degree Flat Bar
    Stem Salsa Moto Ace
    Grips Oury
Front Brake Avid BB7, 160mm Rotor
Rear Brake Avid BB7, 160mm Rotor
Brake Levers Avid FR 5, Black
Crankset FSA V-Drive MegaExo Singlespeed, Black
    Chainring FSA 32T, Black
    Bashguard FSA Polycarbonate, Clear
Bottom Bracket Bushnell Eccentric Bottom Bracket, TruVAtiv MegaExo
    Chain SRAM PC951
    Front Hub DT Swiss 370
    Rear Hub DT Swiss 370
    Quick Release DT Swiss
Cassette SRAM PG 950, 11-34T, Silver
    Spokes DT Swiss Competition
    Nipples DT Swiss
    Rims Stan's Arch
    Tires Racing Ralph
    Chainguide N Gear Jump-Stop
    Rear Derailleur SRAM X.0
    Rear Shifter SRAM X.0 Twist
    Seatpost Salsa Shaft, 27.2mm x 410mm, Black
Seatpost Clamp Salsa Lip-Lock, 30.0mm, Black
Saddle WTB Rocket V Race w/ Salsa Emboidery

I have $800-1000 to upgrade this bike. I'm currently planning a Reba XX fork.

Believe me, I have thought about it. Just not sure I can justify the price.

sorry for the shameless plug but, the Simple Strap is great for XC races. Cheap, light, and not bothersome and bouncy like a saddle bag. and you can do a million things with it.

Ok...you make a strap, we get it. So does Backcountry which I highly reccomend for carrying stuff.

To the OP, Reba sounds solid and convert to tubeless if you have not done so yet. Have to ask...maybe buy a cheap road bike to train on?

Thanks for the suggestion. I plan on changing the cassette and chain to lighter options as soon as the current wears out.
