    Polar A5 monitor Question

How does the 'Walk Test' on the A5 work? I mean, what does it use to give you that arbitrary number at the end of the test? I scored a 39 and I honestly thought that I was more fit than the ' fair' rating i was given.

    cheers
    A.

I believe that it estimates maximal oxygen consumption during the walk. The info sheet from my Polar 5 indicates this is calculated from your heart rate at the end of the walk, as well as your age and body mass index. My guess is that you could improve your walk test result by walking faster during the test (i.e. raising your heart rate). Also might make sure that you other info (age, height, weight) are correctly entered into the wrist unit.
