    Off time before a race

    I just took a week off for vacation and the XC State Championship is in a week, what should I do to make sure my legs aren't stale, but aren't tired either?

    Integrate some easy rides with short, hard rides, preferably similar to your event.

    Agreed, short rides, don't try to "train" or make any gains this week. Just a few short hard efforts on you rides, otherwise easy. Go into the race fresh, you will probably be flying.
