New to MTB and I want to do some organized rides

I'm looking for some guidance. I just got into bike riding last year and I am looking for some organized rides that I can set into my calendar for next year and start training for. I find if I have an event to train for it provides me with a little spark to train harder.

The type of riding I would like to do is more along the lines of the Catalina Gran Fondo and the Whiskey off-road. I think I might call that type of ride more a destination ride than a race. I would like the type of ride that matters less about speed but more about the location. Can you guys give me some recommendations on specific rides that you think might fit this bill. I'm not looking to travel to New York but will travel up to a 10 hr drive from LA.

I would like to some day be able to ride something like the leadville or barn burner.

    Thanks in advance

A race, but one more like the Leadville which seems to care less about time and place. Not sure if I am making sense

Those are better known as endurance races.. Maybe try posting in your appropriate geographic area: http://forums.mtbr.com/forum.php#reg...s-rides-forums or in the endurance racing subforum: Endurance XC Racing
