club or race fit for a kit jersey

hi...i finally got around to joining a club to hopefully do more group rides and get a little more serious about training.

I'm going to get the club kit, and was wondering about jersey cut. I guess i never put that much thought into the cut of my jerseys, especially for mtb racing. I've always worn bib shorts with a non matching jersey, whatever PI or Castelli i had around...

I will be using this jersey/kit for mountain bike racing and cyclocross - no road.

I'm 6'1", around 175. I'm long and lean, but have decent muscularity at my back/shoulder area. Would a "club" fit (bit more relaxed) or "race" fit (tight!) be a better choice? by the way the kit is from Champion Systems. Anyone have a kit from them? I want a tight jersey obviously, but not ridiculous or one i can't breathe in or something...

thanks for any insight if anyone's got any.

I'm 6'2" 175. Race fits typically work much better for me. To get a club fit right I have to wear a medium and then it's way too short.

My guess you would be a XL race fit, or a Large club fit.

Either one would work. From my experience with Castelli and Verge team stuff.

I'm 5' 10", 160-170 and I usually wear Large race fits and medium club fits. The medium race fit only fits well when I'm down to 160ish. Our Castelli USA Team and Verge Primo line is pretty snug.

Definitely race cut. I am 6'2" 170 and wear M Castelli race cut. Granted I like a tight fit...

One more thing about the race fits.

The race fit jerseys typically have a better fit around the arms. I've tried club fit jerseys where the sleeves are loose like a t-shirt.

Some companies have race cut jerseys where the sleeves come down almost halfway down the upper arm. I find I like those types of sleeves the best. You don't get that gap between the upper elastic and the jersey sleeve when you use arm warmers. They hold up arm warmers better too.

I find the training fit works great with layers and the race fits better by itself. Both get used often.

I race with Champion Systems as my clubs kit provider. I am 6' and 180. I have only bought club cut jerseys from them. I didn't want them to be too short. I think I am going to get a couple race cut one though as I have found the club ones a little long. I have a shorter torso and longer legs. We'll see how they are.

My team wears champion kit. I'm 5'10'' and race weight is about 155lbs---i wear a race cut size large...and it's a very close fit. In the Winter I get up to the 165lb area (right now ) and the jersey is pretty tight around the belly.
Check to see if your club has (or an get) a sizing kit before you order.
