    Ardent Race 2.2@772g v. 2.35@786g (in packaging)?

I'm assuming that the packaging weighs the same.... Given the mere 14g difference, is the any reason to go with the 2.2 over the 2.35 in the front?

I would say no reason to go with the 2.2. Wider tires are awesome and that weight different is non existent in my mind. You'll go faster with more confidence on the front.

You can knock off 50g/tire (2.35) with the non-EXO version. I have been running the non-EXO a couples of seasons now without a problem. The trails I typically ride have plenty of rocks and roots. Also rode a week last summer at Pisgah without any issues. If you haven't ridden there it can be brutal on tires. I find I don't need the extra protection the EXO offers, but for your trails or riding style it may be worthwhile.

Thanks for your comments guys. I thought that the ww ship has sailed and left port... as I'm in my sophomoric effort in Sport, I no longer have any podium ambitions.... But after a local race this week, ww-dom has come crashing back in all the vainglory of Strava PRs while duking it out in the back third of the pack...uh....I mean back fourth of the pack.

Here is the non-exo version of 2.35

Nice info there!! I just did my first midweek xc race (of the season) on Wednesday and did it with Ardent 2.4 front EXO TR (805g), Ardent 2.25 rear EXO TR (800g), and I wonder how much better I would be with Ardent Race tires.

But part of me wants to see if I can do well with what I got, and not get so anal on tire weight. Switching to Ardent Races would cost me as much as a midweek season race pass!! The tire combo sure did downhill nice though.

Oh, 5th place "Open-AG" Expert this last Wednesday night (out of 13). Rocky course with lots flat rocky sections which makes this tire combo reliable and comfortable. Several people were cutting side walls. Not cutting side walls saves $$ in the long run. Ultimately tire choice really depends on course.

or you can go with a Mezcal and get a similar tread at 710g - I cant wait to get mine mounted on my 27.5 - I have 2.35 Ikons F/B now and I road and raced in VT this past week and they were WAY better up there than here in MA where it's still rooty and rocky but we have way more loose over hard than VT.

Everyone up here (fast guys) seem to be moving to Vittoria Mezcals and sometimes Barzo for the gnar on the front.

I would try with a different scale. There's no way it's a 14g difference. Were they both TR tires?

The folks at Excel Sports measured a few tires and it's more like 90g difference between 2.2 and 2.35 sizes. Ardent Race 29 3C/EXO/TR weight seems to be misreported

Just based on the width measurements in the photos, with the 2.35 being 1/2" wider, math says that's 11% more tire which is about 70g, but it's going to be a little more than that since the knob area is heavier than sidewall. So in short, more like 90-100g and no way it can be 14g although I wish is was

I returned the tire, but the receipt was for TR version of the 2.35. The photo shows that the 2.2 is TR.
