Well how can you lose with those shoes? I bought a pair and have won two races since.

    Seriously though, nice.

all i want to do is ride through that stupid tunnel(mean this in a awesome way). i am going to have to talk to the race orgs. near me cause we need a tunnel.

looks like you are having a blast getting it done also which is a good thing.

won't be until the middle of april until i have a race pic

7 or 8 pounds...finally training right and eating a lot healthier...I did loose the weight during Base while still going to the gym twice a week. I kept my strength while aerobic capacity increased a lot...bla bla bla...Im gonna shut up now...

Cool fact...I took 4 minutes off from last race in July at the same course...

There were two tunnels. We merge two race courses into one for certain races and that's the only way to do it. The tunnels pass under one of the main highways of Puerto Rico, so you can hear cars and big rigs over you while in there.

The shoes? They are awesome!!! I also have a pair of S-Works, but I like the Northwave more due to more flexibility in some areas...

Aerobic capacity? Lots of base while targeting zones and power (when I had a PM available). Also, underwater training...holding rocks while running underwater on the ocean floor. At a race that I though I trained properly for in the same course, I was gassed on the climbs and gasping for air on hard efforts. At the race last week, never did I felt that way and had lots of power in reserve in case of any attacks. Testing during training was done by a doctor, but honestly, I don't remember the numbers and can't find them anywhere...(rough couple of months with family issues had me taking care of a family member).

    Weather? Dry, hot, dusty, windy...

Here are three of mine. From my last two races. Placed 1st in both by a huge margin and moving up to Cat 1 this weekend!

2nd race of the season...placed 3rd after flatting twice...two thorns on the same tire and not enought sealant to seal...

    BTW...that was a 20%+ climb...

Cornering slow and with poor form in this pic.

    2013 Race Pictures...here we go!!!-gihp6hrracephoto.jpg

This is from the Chainbusters Green Gobbler 6hr race this past weekend. Second marathon MTB race ever. I focus on XC duration events.

I scored 4th place expert solo male after riding steady and consistent the whole race. 6th overall out of 129 solo racers. In retrospect, I should have pushed harder through the middle couple laps of the race but I was afraid of cramping. It would have allowed me to finish the 9th lap and possibly catch 3rd place.

All you guys wearing shorts and t-shirts.

First race happened about a month ago, -11 C at the start. Second major Southern Ontario race is set to go this weekend (an all surface CX/MTB race). Might not look much different if the weather holds!

I agree and luckily rarely ever have to ride in it. It just feels like it takes everything out of your legs while going incredibly slow. Nice pic though.

Yes. You are taken out on a ferry to Alcatraz or about 50 yards from the island and you jump in. This was my first year and it was the hardest swim I've ever done. The water was 51 degrees, the current was insane and the waves made it VERY difficult to see the shore. I was frozen to the bone by the time I made it to shore.

Unfortunately, one swimmer did drown (died). Even though you have to be an experienced triathlete to get in. The swim was like nothing I've ever done. I'm VERY comfortable in the water, but this was the first time I was concerned for my own safety.

The bike and run consisted of SF hills. I'd say the bike was like a mountain bike race but on pavement. Meaning, short and STEEP hills.

That's too bad about the swimmer. That sounds like an incredible race though, great job. I have really short and steep road climbs in my area too so I know what you mean. You almost would rather see a 4 mile moderate grade climb where you can keep a steady pace the whole time.

Finished 9 of 30 in cat 2. Second race ever. It's fun to be able to bomb around the trails without worrying about people coming the other way or off leash dogs. Great time.

Only managed 15th place out of 44 entries, largely in part (no mention of the 39 pound fatbike slowing me down) that I was late to the starting line. When I got there, the 50-some-odd age group was lining up. I had a lot of catch up work to do. I honestly had no idea Iíd place better than 25th place.

Dude, you arenít kidding!!! Hard to train at a race pace with all the clueless trail zombies either talking on the phone or texting. I feel safer on a race course than anywhere else.

Here's a couple from a 3 hour event called the Bone Bender in Lawrence Ks (home of KU). Took 4th of 18 after a terrible start blowing myself up. My daughter (18 months) locked herself in the car with both sets of keys shortly before the race. Thankfully, it was a cool day or it really could have been bad. However, I missed the call for the start and lined up at the back of 220 people. Blew myself up trying to get moved up before the singletrack. When I came through after the first lap an hour and 20 minutes later my wife had her though thank goodness!!

When I first saw this thread, I didn't have any race photos yet. ÖThen I forgot to post when I did!

First race of the Iowa series was just over two weeks ago.

My friend Angy took this great shot that shows what a fierce competitor I am. ;-)

Second time racing in 2.5 years. Got bumped to Expert in my local race series this week and came in third. Minimal seat time over the winter with lots of intervals on the trainer/airdyne and Crossfit.

Typically you'd be right. We've been warm and had a ton less snow this winter. The trails are riding like July already. It's been a few weeks since any real rain too.

With those conditions, ss and rigid would be the only way I would race! Mud tears up a drive train pretty quickly.

Exactly! I have been racing singlespeed and rigid for 7 years (yes, the picture of me above is on a rigid setup) without a single mechanical problem even in some epic muddy conditions. I do admit that the rigid part is becoming rather difficult. I am 51.

    Thanks for the kudos!

The bike took a few hits: gradually lost rear brakes, right grip loosened, BB tightened up over the course of the race somehow (and I thought I was just tired), but it's mostly house-brand components so my expectations were low.

Chamois', no wool. I don't mind being soaked as long as I'm not cold.

I'd love a sub-20 lb. race rig but my bike budget is next to zero, so I scooped up the first XL singlespeed I could find for $265. My goal was to finish ahead of DFL and I succeeded.

You're right. I had waaaay too much pressure in the negative chamber. I fixed it after this race. A lot more travel and no more bottoming out.

Tuesday night race series known as Over the Hump at Irvine Lake. This was taken at the series opener on 5/21/2013. Five mile loop with 600 racers on course!...which goes a long way to explain the dust... Had 86 racers in my cat/age group alone.
