    2013 Race bikes

Post up! I'm trying to gather ideas for my bike situation next year. Would love to see some XC and shorter endurance race bikes here.

I built this for racing in 2013. I had ordered a Superfly 100 SL but got my deposit back when the shipping date got pushed back past out entire race season. I put it together with a mix of parts some new some old to get started. Now I'm going to start with the XX1 a piece at a time.

^ That scalpal looks really long. What size is that? I wish I could afford one, college. Got my eye on a F29 carbon 3 for 2013.

Probably because of the bad I phone pic. It's a medium.

    XX cassette
    Easton EC90 seatpost and handlebar
    Magura MT 8 brakes
Selle Italia SLR kit Carbonio flow saddle
Enve XC wheels with DT Swiss 240 hubs front and rear.

Bought the bike used, stock. Then upgraded.

Yeah the bike should! I just hope that the engine can keep up!

I've been a single speed racer exclusively for the past 5 years, so racing with gears will be different for me for sure. Although at some point, I may convert this to SS. Ha!

That's funny. I've been riding SS for 4 years and raced the SS open class in Arizona last year. I made the switch to a geared suspension bike this year also.

That's quite a change for you. I'm interested to see how quickly your SS climbing style adapts to the FS bike (as someone who stands to climb a lot as well). Adapting to gears will be interesting as well.

People who are fast tend to be fast on any bike (that fits), so I'm sure you'll do well

I broke my full suspension so picked up a new frame and built this up. Poor college student status. Plans are for a new wheelset in the future and ikons waiting to go on once summer starts.

    Only Slightly Different

This year I started racing rigid steel,

    moved to rigid Al

but did some experimenting with a suspension fork, and found it to be really fun so I'll be on an Al HT in 2013.

MAde the switch from carbon back to aluminum for the 2013 race year. Here is my Spearfish 1 fully built w pedals, bar ends & bottle cages coming in at 21.7 lbs. This year I won't be blaming my gear...

    Rigid SS AL:
    2013 Cannondale F29 Alloy 1 frame
    Salsa Grande Maxle Fork
Stans Flows (I'm a bigger guy 220lbs) on Paul with Eno Trails 18t and Hope front
    Maxxis Ikons 29x2.2
TeamBEER ebb (this is the BEST piece)
Shimano XT brakeset w/ 160mm ice tech rotors
    Bontrager Carbon Big Sweep
    Ergon Mag grips with barends

Looking at a Niner Arctic White RDO fork to shed about 1.3lbs and I already have the 15mm end caps I am also going to go a 34t up front vs the 32t currently being used.

I have not weight this yet but it by feel alone is considerably lighter then my On-One Inbred with roughly the same bits. I think the frame was almost 5lbs on it's own (maybe more). I just have a crap pic of it now but will get some better ones once I've settled it in.

Carbon to aluminum for me as well for 2013. I won't have my frame for a month or two still but I am excited to ride and show it off! Plans are underway to make certain it is stupid-light yet reliable... not to mention fast and sexy...

That Spearfish is really nice. Enjoy riding the crap out of that thing.

Very nice. I like the new steel Seven. Racing rigid this season or is the Lefty just hibernating?

So many rigid setups and even SS compared to EU, how does XC look like overseas, is it more suited for such bikes, or you are just more hardcore?

1 bar thats crazy light for a medium spearfish 1. I'm building The same bike but in small. What components did you trick it out with? What gearing on the 2X10?

So far I have an XO crank, reba 29er fork, enduro Xd-15 BB, and carbon roval control wheels. Shooting for a lightweight build.

Here's a few more pics so you can see all the parts. It's a combo of KCNC, American Classic Race 29's, Schwalbe tires (tubeless), Token saddle/seatpost, XX drivetrain and brakes. I'm actually kind of kicking myself for not going XX1 though. Not only would XX1 be about 3/4lbs lighter but it just makes for more simplicity. I've been testing this out and I'm loving the geometry. It's really a Salsa Mamasita with full suspension.

This site kills me in January and February (Winter here in WI). But it also keeps me motivated to train for spring.

My first 29er and I cant wait to put it to the test. New before my first race (May) will be XO Triggers, tires (Aspen), front XO derailuer and King Headset.

Get some 2.4" tires at 12 PSI on that thing and hit the snowmobile trails! I was back over the holidays, had some great riding on snowmobile trails, frozen lakes in Northern WI. I also rode some clear and frozen mountain bike trails down in the Chicago area.

    Bmc te 01 29

Here is mine. Best bike I have ever owned. BMC makes it awesome in everyway.

XX1, Magura MT8s, Syntace bar/stem, Roval wheels, SID Brain fork. 20.4 pounds.

For you guys riding rigids: don't you feel beat up after a ride? I'm leaning the other way, going from hardtail to full suspension. The rockgardens did me in.

Mine will be the same as the last 2 years, no upgrades this year either. 2008 Orbea Alma carbon, Crest wheels, SID XX, XO 1x10, XX brakes. 19.9 lbs last time I weighed it.

I love my Orbea, and after demo-ing other carbon hardtails I love it all the more. When it breaks I'll replace it with a Carbonal Gaea (Chinese bike) or a Trek Superfly SL if I'm on the team I hope to be on by then. Whenever that happens I'll get a XX1 crank and an XO type II RD and ditch the chainguide.
