X-Post: Best price on Monkey Bar XC

I had to look twice just to make sure: http://wheelworld.com/itemdetails.cf...gId=39&id=5343

They should fly off the shelves....wonder why they're so cheap.

They still show these as in stock

It's definitely worth a bump up to the top of the forum because these are an awesome deal. $50 for either the 135 gram MonkeyLite SL CNT Bar or the 150 gram MonkeyLite XC CNT Bar, both in 25.4 mm diameter only. I ordered one of the SLs for my "light" bike.

My guess for the great prices on these is that people are swallowing the marketing hype and buying the heavier 31.8 mm diameter bars more now, putting these less in demand.

I'm glad I found this thread! I'm looking at changing the handlebar on my '06 Kona Cindercone and this looks like a good deal. The specs on my current Kona Riser are:

    50mm rise, 660mm width, 25.4mm bar clamp and 1 1/8" steerer

So far the current setup is okay, but it feels a bit sluggish when I'm on the trail.

So would it be fairly simple to swap in either the SL or XC without replacing grips, stem etc? Would a carbon handlebar be kind of stupid w/ an aluminum stem and I might as well get a new stem too? Is this fairly easy to do?

I see the SL is a low rise (20mm rise) and 610mm wide. Anyone know how much rise is on the XC (in mm) since its a high rise? Which would be more comparable to what I have now?

Thanks in advance for your help. I'm a bit of a newb and I'm trying to figure all this out

**Edited to change current kona riser width to 660mm

The XC is heavier and stronger. The SL is lighter and made more for race-duty bikes. Width- not sure but I prefer wider- both these are too narrow. I just got the XC high-rise 30.8 bar btu prefer my other carbon bar. However, the 31.8 is stiffer than the 25.4. I'm 190 and can feel the difference. That may be why the 25.4 is narrower- to have less leverage force that can be applied to it.

These are strong bars. The XCs have survived many crashes and a lot of "torquing". My friend's SL didn't fare so well on his first crash but I know others who use them and are fine. I would not, being 190 lbs.

    Just got my SL bar

That was pretty fast (3 days) for normal shipping from CA to MI. It's 136 grams on my scale and came in an aftermarket Easton box. Looks good.
