Watch out for counterfeit Chris King HS''s on Ebay

Watch out for counterfeit Chris King Headsets on Ebay. They are pretty good copies. They generally try to sell them for $5 or $10 bucks less than the normal ebaby prices. I got stuck by the following seller; XcyclingX. They had 100% feedback with over 100 transactions. I used Paypal and will get my money but with an added hassle factor. There is a website that outlines the differences between the real and the fake ones. Just google "fake chris king".

Next year beware of fake Christmas decorations. They look like real ones, but don't bring happy feelings like a real ones
I used to run tubes like you are, but then I got thorn in my wheel.

This website shows the differences. As I said they are pretty good but fake. The big clue is that the bearings aren't as smooth as my other CK's. Also the top cap isn't stamped with numbers and lettering.

never liked CK headsets anyway. This is another good reason not to buy one.

it's a good idea not to buy a quality item because counterfeits exist? that's pretty silly. if you buy from a bike shop you won't have an issue.

what a trip. damn good job at machining those headsets though. i wonder how much of a killing the guy's making. whats even funnier is the seller lives in the same zip code; union city, ca. haha.

Dang, i guess I got lucky on my ebay purchase... without it in front of me, I had the bag with the lables, and a the manual/paper info thing that comes with them. The plastic shim was identical to other authentic one I have.

I'll do bike shops from now.

There are no shortage of smoother spinning cartridge bearing headset made that that are lighter than king and cheaper too. Oh boo...no ten-year warranty on the bearings, whoopy doo. If they make ones that are annodized like King's also, so much the better. Personally I'd rather get the CaneCreek 110s or a Hope headset anyway.

Well I'll be damned. I'd be hard pressed to tell it apart with or without the real one right next to it.

Looks like they put some thought into making the fake. I'd get one. Cheaper and lighter.

That headset is the same color as my wife's $30 Coach pocketbook and my $15 Oakey sunglasses.

Not if it's only $5-10 less. If it were half the cost, then we'd be talking.

Okay beside the ethical end of it...

    JOB WELL DONE!!! IMPRESSIVE.

Get the milling quality a hair better...it would be even lighter.

Oh yeah, I'm sure ebay would really punish the seller bad enough to warrant the tag "serious trouble". Ebay barely cares about legitimate fraud, let alone sales on counterfeits.
