    Outside Outfitters?

Has anyone ever ordered from these guys? Good prices on some components. They appear to be in St Louis.

I purchased a shock from them about a year ago. Shipping was a little slow but other than that I got a good deal and was satisfied.

    Follow up

Just a follow-up. I ordered a seatpost from them that was selling at a very good price. The shipping was not the fastest (8 calendars days for standard shipping to DC area) but everything else went smoothly - I would order from them again.

Yep, typical overstock type of behavior and time frame. I have no issue with them, just don't use them in a rush.

I just ordered a handlebar from them. The shipping was slightly slower than other stores but the price was good, so no complain.

My friend just placed an order with them almost 2 weeks ago and is just now getting his parts. I ordered parts from Jenson a day after him and got my stuff in 2 days. Jenson shipped my order the same day. Outside Outfitters took 3 days to complete the order, then another 2 days to actually ship it and send him a tracking #.

    To me, that's unacceptable.

Similar experience. Slow to ship, good prices on some stuff.

The did get my order mixed up with someone elses, sent me another shipping label via email to re-send to the right customer...the only issue I had was that I had to take it down to UPS for them which was a little frustrating. I still haven't got my order though.

Very slow shipping, bad customer service.
When I followed up on my order and requested expedited fulfillment, they said it's 3 days to fill an order, and that's set in stone. I said it was merely a request and if they can't do it, then that's too bad.
    They hung up on me.

The shipping can be slow i agree . It takes about 5 days before anything even leaves the shop BUT they have nearly the best shipping price of any of the US shops to Australia , I have had a 29er frame, bars, stem and seatpost shipped for $90.
As far as the customer service goes, the guys there have been the most helpful of any shop i have ordered from anywhere . I have placed about 4 orders from them in total now and will continue to use them if i cant get what i want from CR and Wiggle in the UK as the shipping there is free

I ordered from them a few times. Grest prices, and I got something that didn't fit once, and they had an absolutely no hassle return policy. Totally painless. I'll order from them again.

Outside Outfitters does state handling times are 2-3 days... but is this accurate?

I am wondering if I should cancel my order to Canada, the shipping prices were excellent, almost so low I thought it was a mistake, but now I am paying for it, it has been 5 days (3 business days) since my order and nothing has shipped and status has not changed. I have had to wait a week before for Jenson to get stuff from their warehouse, but they clearly state this on the product's page and Jenson's actual shipping is overnight most of the time.

Auch, 3 days to complete an order plus 2 to ship the item? That's a full week! I guess I'll just use them as a last resource option then.

I've ordered a bunch of stuff from them with no problems. Their online stock info is accurate as far as I can tell. They have good prices but if you can't wait 3 extra days order somewhere else. I personally think it's worth it.

Yea, just I guess I should have read before ordering, I needed a centerlock adapter for my bike and the shipping was super cheap...but now I am stuck with one brake until I get this order. I phoned every bike store near me and noone has one so I thought I would order online, the tire shipping charges are cheap too so I got some of those as well. Gonna be a month before I get the damn things, to me this is slow given the amount of competition out there... there's always a catch it seems. :/

If you look at the shipping page its says "weekdays for shipping"

    http://www.outsideoutfitters.com/t-shipping.aspx

Canada to me looks like 4-7 WEEKDAYS depending where you are.

Seems the only problem was you not reading their shipping times/policy.

I've ordered from them subsequently to my initial post and the story is always the same.

    1. Good prices, cheap standard shipping.
    2. Really SLOW delivery from order to arrival. They always seem to use the 2-3 days "processing" noted on their website. My stuff seems to ship 3-4 business days after my order is placed.

I've never had to contact them about an issue so I have no idea of their service level in that area.

As noted by many in this thread, I use them but not if I need something in the next week or less. I imagine to Canada they are even slower.

Im from oz and order stuff with them on their cheap shipping and awesome customer service , if you send an email to them (usually Jeff) you get a personal reply , not a computer copy and paste, they are really helpful and will order stuff in for you .

YES it takes about 14-18 days from placed order to delivery from OO's, Jenson/Wiggle/Speedgoad/Chainreaction are about 8-10 days.

Understand their shipping policies and methods then theres no problems.

Actually, my experience is different. Yes, they don't ship immediately, but, the price was good and it shipped within the 3 days they claim. I received my order yesterday without issue. Buy from them on price when you are NOT in a rush...but they delivered.

like everyone else has said, prices are great, but shipping time is very slow. Im in VA and from the time of my order to the day its on my doorstep is about a week and a half.

great place to buy stuff you dont need now now now now now.

if you do need it now, just cut the crybaby drama and get it someplace else

I know it's a bit of a resurrection, just thought it'd be a good place to add this.

Put in an order for a few misc items to Outside Outfitters; picked the slowest (and obviously cheapest) shipping option to Canada. Will update when I have the items, but I got a tracking number 1 day later directly from the person I was dealing with. Very nice customer service so far (a few items were showing "call us", had to contact them), prices were WAY better than anything I could find anywhere else, and shipping was stupid cheap to Canada.

Yea it turned out the cheap shipping WAS a mistake in my case and I had to pay more, lol ( I think they were just using USPS first class which has no tracking #) and the handling time was slow (I waited 6 days before it shipped). It's tough to order things and wait sometimes, especially when it is keeping you from riding.

However it can always be worse...I have had much much worse shipping, like from Zem shoes (unrelated to bikes). Almost a month now and my shoes have not shipped due to "backorders" but they conveniently did not list this on the website when I ordered it. So, I finally emailed them to ask if another colour was in stock and they said that my order was in stock afterall! WTH? They changed my order to "processed" but I am still waiting for it to ship.. so ya compared to that Outside Outfitters is the daytona 500./end rant.

Ordered a few times from them and they are terrific. Last order was via phone since I needed 2 items price matched. He stayed on the phone with me, verified the websites, and took care of everything right there. He even told me that it will take a couple of days to ship out and then it would arrive (free shipping for over $111) about 5 business days afterwards. Everything was spot on...no problems.

For sites like Outside Outfitters, Tree Fort Bikes, ebikestop, etc, you will often find the best prices and outstanding customer service, along with free shipping with minimum. But if you need it shipped out immediately, where their business is predominately web-order based, go to Jenson, Pricepoint or Cambria. But of course, you will have to pay shipping.

So it depends on how quickly you want it and how much saving a couple of bucks is important to you. Of course, if you need it right away, you can always walk into your LBS. For me, saving a few bucks is vital.

All in all I think its a descent place to place as long as you are not in a hurry for the order. I will say they do offer excellent phone service. I needed some internal RS fork parts and they were the only online company that researched my small parts order.

For certain parts, these guys were hands down the best prices and for us in SoCal the savings on tax is substantial. They are very slow compared to any other e-tailer with basically a week turnaround just to get it in the mail. As long as you are not anxious, I highly recommend them. One of the nice things about the slow processing time was I amended my order before it went out which was nice.

Update: Ordered my items on Sunday the 8th, arrived in my mailbox Friday the 20th. ~10 business days to Canada using their slowest shipping option.

A+ imo, and my box was shaped like a giant Toblerone ... I love Toblerone.

    No good

Of course I did ask them several times, but their answer were only "we have dispatched your order" and "is there anyway we can help?". Even when I asked a proof (scan copy, etc.) of dispatching receipt, they couldn't show it. At least, I can be certain it's lost on its way if they can show a proof of dispatching from their warehouse. Poor handling

You had a tracking number from them and you paid by credit card, if the tracking didnt show it get to you, then contact your credit card company for a refund

Thats what credit cards are for, you spend their money then try pay it all back at the end of the month. If you didnt get your item and there is no proof it was sent then you should get your cash back, if the vendor doesnt agree then contact your creditcard company.

If you had sent them the info you posted here ^^Post #34^^ your claim would already be underway.

About to order from these guys since they have the best price on a dropper post I want. As usual, I'm ordering the day before a holiday weekend so shipping should be extra slow.

I don't need it for a month, so I'll put them to the test.

Edit: decided to try out price match with Jenson and they accepted so I ordered from them with it being the same cost.

Being an Aussie buyer, waiting on 3 tyres coming from them as we speak.... ordered Monday, got the dispatch notice Thursday, they were an order in item so 3 days is good. More than happy with OO's prices and customer service.... as I said earlier, not the fastest but very well priced and cheap shipping to Australia. Ive ordered well over $1000 worth of stuff every year since 2008.

Good guys if you aren't expecting next day delivery.

I stumbled on this thread a couple of weeks ago when I was googling this shop to see if they were safe. After reading here and a couple of other places I decided to go ahead and order.

I'm very satisfied. Delivery was very fast (to USA), took 6 days total, from order to delivery, normal ground shipping, which was free.

I had an issue with tracking number not showing for my order, so I called their customer service number, 1st time there was an answering machine, but I didn't leave a message.
Called the following day, a helpful guy answered, I told him my problem, he apologized and said they just upgraded or replaced their shipping system, and that they have a bug with the tracking numbers showing on customers account.
Anyway, he manually looked my order, and told its status.

I have no idea how they manage their low prices, though to be honest I didn't try the "price match" option of other suppliers like jensonUSA, but I just think, that since they have such good prices, it would be good to share my experience.

Buttom line - I would recommend buying from them, and I will buy from them again.

Bought a Stan's Arch wheel set from them. They were by far the lowest price at the time. I was ready to order a Light Bicycle set when I saw this incredible deal.

I picked the wheel set up in person since they are located where I live. Very nice guys there. I would recommend them to everyone.

I have ordered outside gear (not bike stuff) from them. Order fulfillment was a touch slower than other companies, but their price was the best.

I also use with great success:
    Bike:
    Universal Cycles
    Jenson USA
    Bike Bling
    EBikeStop*
    Colorado Cyclist*

    Outdoor:
    OutsideOutfitters
    OMCGear

*I only use these guys if I can't get it anywhere else as I like to avoid the sales tax if I can. By far, UniversalCycles out of Portland is my favorite bike mail order house.

Just ordered a couple items from them. Similar experience to what others have mentioned. Their list price was much lower than everyone else but the shipping/fulfillment time very slow -- 10 days in my case.

I didn't realize Jenson and Universal did price matching. Next time I'll go that route. Jenson always has things to me in 2-3 days even by ground.

I've had a bad experience with Outside Outfitters, I would not recommend using them. Ordered "in stock" handlebars and my credit card was immediately charged. After 7 days without any kind of status, I called them and was told that the bars were backordered and that they could not give me a ship date. (So why was my credit card charged???) I canceled the order at that time and received an email from them stating that a full credit had been posted. A month goes by and I see from my credit card statement that I never got the credit. Have contacted them multiple times since then, and after another week I still haven't received the credit. Looking at their BBB complaints, this seems like their standard MO. I wonder how many people don't notice that their credit was never issued.

I am resurrecting this thread because I feel fellow riders should know the truth about Outside Outfitters. Bottom Line, they are AWFUL!!! DO NOT order from them. I believe there is more going on than just slow shipping. I ordered an Easton Haven Stem on May 20th, finally received an email (with NO tracking #) on May 31st telling me my order had shipped. Today is June 8th and I STILL do not have my order!!! Buyer Beware, these guys are crooks! I have filed a dispute with my CC company and I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB. Horrible company! Reminds me of the New York/New Jersey electronic dealers selling TV's online!
