    Northrock XC6 bike 3x8, 18" and 19.5" $379 at costco

You'll have to assemble yourself, but this just might set a bar in value on the lower end bike. The rims are no name, but they are at least curved and step up from the chromed out ones you see on bottom end bikes.

    suntour xct fork
    wtb saddle
    altus shifters
    acera drivetrain
    tektro disc brakes
    wtb 2.1" moto raptor tires
    pedals - looked cheap rubberized.

    manufacturer specs
    Northrock Bike - Mountain Bike - xc6

    pic of actual bike

Cool find. Be great for a spouse that doesn't ride but once every blue moon or a good first bike to figure out if you like the sport.

Your spouse will NEVER discover that she/he enjoys the sport if they're on this 35 lb beast. I agree, bikes like this have a time and place. But giving it to your significant other when you're on a 25 lb bike isn't exactly instilling a love for mountain biking for them.
C'mon lets go for a whirl.

Never said it was designed to instill a love of biking in your spouse but for a wife like mine that occasionally wants to ride "with me" and by that means go to the county park and ride the little trail there it's all shed need. Would be beyond silly to buy a spouse who has no real interest in mtb as a serious hobby a 1000$ bike to collect dust in the garage.

Many bikers ride entry level bikes that are beasts. Many of them have beaten me too.

There is a pretty lengthy thread about this bike already, seems all the did is change the color from black to white and raise the price a little.

I have the black version, been rding the XC6 for a few years - Love it! Great price - find, weight is actually around 30lbs (aluminum frame), pedals are metal. Headset is crane, SHIMANO crank, all top components.
