    looking for advice

i guess this is mostly aimed to people from US. i am in the process of gathering parts for new bike. since on tight budget i decided to go with 2011 shimano drivetrain components. since 2012 stuff is around the corner and with 4th of july discounts, prices are pretty decent. i am not sure if i should pull trigger or wait for labor day sales. wouldnt it bee too late? i mean i am worried that 2011 components will not be available anymore and i would have to get 2012 and skim on some other bike parts.

From the time I have a frame in my hand I am riding the bike within the next 2 weekends and I swear I've gotten killer deals on all the parts. If you do your research ahead of time I don't think the time of year matters there are always deals, like you said the 2012 stuff is out in some cases (Fox forx) and the prices on 2011 products are great (fantastic considering we are in mid season). You sounds likes you know what you want and you are tracking prices so you know whats a good deal, I say pull the trigger whenever you want. Or do the slow gather on killer deals and squirrel away parts.

Unless you need 10 speed stuff, just buy 2010 stuff. If you wait for the "Killer Deal" you might be waiting forever. I'm still waiting for a lightweight(<2.4lbs) quality fork under $1000. I'm still waiting for a wide, >24mm rim brake rim, <500 grams. If you wait long enough, you are dead! Pull the trigger and get riding!
