Pretty awesome deal for sure. Quality, if entry level, components, and a frame you can certainly hang any upgrade on.

I see that this deal is still going on. Surprised they haven't sold out as that's like a grand off of the current model year SF3!

Probably b/c only L & XL are left and the components are not that great for a $1350 bike

I bought one of the XL last week... components aren't bad besides the X5 shifters and possibly the Elixer 1. Honestly most of the lower end components on it are ones we end up upgrading anyway.

I'll toss on a X0 rear trigger shifter and go to a 1x10 setup. I have a set up Hope Pro hubs I'm planning to lace with some Pacenti TL28 hoops and run it tubeless. Should be a pretty decent setup for someone on a budget.

I don't know how you can lose. Most FS 29er frames alone are priced somewhere around that pricepoint and this is a solidly reviewed and popular brand/model.

    Agree...

That was my deciding factor in my purchase. A Niner Jet9 frame =$1250
    Salsa Spearfish 2 frame =$999

I'll end up with some extra parts for about the same money as a frame alone. Maybe I'll build up a hard tail for the girl friend

X5 is pretty low rent even @ 1350, especially since the MSRP is 2200. Deore I can understand, but x5 is barely serviceable. People shopping for an FS in this range are probably cross shopping used or demos which can offer much better value for money. I've seen both a superlight 29er and a heckler for 1500 on clearance new at an LBS, which both had much better components. Just saying.

i'd prolly get a VooDoo Canzo frame...and shoot for some nice bargains to build my own bike.
Voodoo Canzo 29" Frame - Outside Outfitters

For a 1300 buck bike, you could build something pretty decent if you really really tried IMHO. Maybe a few bucks more.
but that takes time to do...it's something a lot of folks don't have or don't know how to do.It's another option though...mainly to bike builders.

So the main "low rent" component to be concerned with are the X5 shifters, correct? The RD is X7 and pretty decent. So a new set of SRAM X9 2X10 shifters can be had for $50. Worth complaining about?

What something is worth is what people will pay. I recently watched two auctions on spearfish 3's:

    1st one was a new 2012: sold for $1665.00 plus $160 shipping

2nd one was a used 2011 that was missing the cranks: sold for $1632.97 plus $120 shipping
