Wink I found YOU handbuilt 29er and 26er wheels, CHEAP!

Okay, after building a Singlespeed Birthday Gift with a friend of mine for a friend of ours and subsequently posting this SS Wheelset Dilemma, I found a great deal I wanna share.

Here you go, get 'em while they're HOT!!

Handspun Red Hot Wheels via AEBike.com

    They are Handbuilt wheels using:

    Shimano XT DISC hubs BLACK

    or

New Surly SS DISC hubs BLACK

    with

Velocity Blunt Rims DISC ONLY (New Generation) 32 Hole RED

DT Swiss Supercomp Spokes laced 3x BLACK

(Don't be confused by the descriptions, Handspun (QBP) confirmed all the wheels were built using Supercomps, which are black.)

The Birthday Girl received the 29er Surly version and they are dead sexy. The builds are excellent, and laced 3x with proper tension and easily converted tubeless with inexpensive Bontrager Rhythm/Duster Rimstrips, Valves and your choice of sealant.

Our 29er Surly SS Red Hot Wheelset weighed in at:

921 grams : Front New Surly SS Hub - Velocity Blunt w/ Supercomp Spokes
1012 grams : Rear New Surly SS Hub - Velocity Blunt w/ Supercomp Spokes
202 grams: White Industries Trials Freewheel
    Total: 2135 grams
(This is the weight without tape, rimstrips or valves.)

They're not LIGHT, but they're CHEAP and STRONG.

Oh, and by the way, it's more cost effective if you purchase through AEBike since they are shipped FREE. Of course, you might be able to get a sweetheart (Bro) deal from you LBS. Some online retailers may pricematch as well, so it's an option.

Same here. I need a new wheel and I looking at XT hubs already, but the red ruins what would have been the perfect deal

That is a sweet price! I had thought about picking up a light wheelset for those days that I didn't want to be pulling the KHs around. Not crazy about the red, but covered in mud or dust, who cares.

Since those are QBP built, I looked for them also at Universal Cycles because they've got a perpetual 10% off code vip10

I looked and found the red blunts laced to XT hubs, no surly rear though. $3 more, but $10% off is $20.

EDIT - correction - Universal only has the fronts listed.

Even with 10% off there's still the shipping cost with Universal Cycles, and if you do local pick-up, there's the tax. But whatever, I wasn't an Accounting Major!

Hey, just so you know, any local shop could get these for you as well for a good deal. They are a special from QBP, the main supplier to shops in the US...

Are the rear hubs QR or standard threaded through axle?

Alfred E Bike is in my home town back in the states..I personally wouldn't spend a dollar in that store even if it meant walking home..The owner is ( momma told me if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all) when I was going there in the early and mid 90's "mountain bikes are not real bicycles and no real cyclists ride mountain bikes that is why I don't carry any parts, I only carry parts for bicycles"

Found out that the rear Surly is QR but according to Johnny at Surly, all that's needed to convert it is a 10X1X174 threaded axle.

There seems to be some differences in prices…the link on AEB shows 90 and then going to their actual site shows it at 126.00 and you get a discount but it added shipping. I must of missed the larger discount. Oh well I order from universal cycles it was cheaper.

Oh come on deal seekers. . . Do we really give up this easily? E-cheapskating is not for the faint of heart.

Try here for the same wheels at ever-so-slightly higher prices ($185 + shipping for the XT/Blunt 29er set).

DISCLAIMER: I have never ordered from these people, but their reviews are not 100% positive. Proceed at your own risk (but also see above comment about e-cheapskating and faint hearts).

Now you're speaking the language of the deal.

Looking for these in 29er XT. I can find a rear, but no front. Is there somewhere I'm missing, or did I just miss out?

Just picked up a pair for 154.04 shipped from Universal. E-cheapskate extreme.
