Continental Trail King 26 x 2.2 from PerfBike $17.49

This is pretty much my favorite rear tire for my 29 (I use the racier version, but same tread pattern) so when my kid needed new tires I shopped around and got a great deal, good service. I paid 17.49 each. Ironically less than half of Nashbar, who I stopped dealing with because they don't have anymore good deals since Performance Bike bought them out.
