    Best deal on SLX cranks?

I remember they were hitting the $100 mark, that still show up anywhere?

I'd opt for the Shimano LX FC MC580 cranks that Jenson has for $89.00.

I would never buy these again. The middle chainring is made of a very lightweight and fragile aluminum and it will not last. I went through 3 before moving up to XT. You might end up replacing it within a year and would be better off spending a bit more to begin with.

The SLX features a steel/ composite middle ring that is absolutely superior and worth a few extra bucks.

The middle ring on mine wore out way too soon as well. I replaced it with XT, no problems since. I say get the SLX instead.

SLX for $100 was a very hot deal and sold out fast, considering how light and sharp looking the crank arms were.

For similar quality or better, try to catch the SRAM X7 3x10 crankarm that pops up on chainlove. Think that pops up for 50% for $110 or so. The X glide rings on it are amazing.

On higher end cranksets made from SRAM or shimano, quite a lot of your money is going into quality chainrings that last a very long time. I had a Shimano XTR 950 that had rings last almost 10 years (15k miles). The replacement rings ran for well over $100 and I would've been all for it if I had money. I bought an identical crank that was well used for $60 instead and it's still going strong. Funny thing is that the old Octalink BB spins smoother than the BBs on any of my new bikes and I never serviced it at all.

Missed it, I'll keep an eye out. How often does a product usually resurface? Daily?

    I wouldn't recommend that crankset.

No predicting when stuff pops up on chainlove. They try to space things out, but there's no real pattern. Just check out that gearscan link I provided earlier and use the tracking details there.

You're right, I didn't mention chainlove....some people like to make sheet up as reason why not to buy x,y, or z parts. Here's 2 links,

    www.blueskycycling.com

    www.jensonusa.com

Just noticed Jenson decided to match Blue Sky's pricing on a number of parts.

He was responding to stumblemumble, as he brought up Chainlove for the X7 crank himself and stumblemumble asked a question.

Thanks, IAmHolland. I haven't bothered to figure out how to use that multi-quote feature yet.

RaceFace has a history of having terrible BBs. Forging makes a stronger crankset than CNC billet and their chainrings aren't known for good durability.

The Race Face Ride is their entry level crankset. You can do better and get the Evolve XC 175mm for about the same price. Just do a search on Ebay...Rocky Mountain Cycles auctions the Evolve all the time and you can easily win an auction in $80 price range.

I did an exhaustive search for cranks a couple months ago to not break $100. I went with the Evolve that I mention. The only other crank that I thought decent was the FSA Comet. But really if you can spare $40 just get the SLX from bikewagon

Yea, they are great cranks. I run a couple of them on different bikes over a couple of years (got another with that deal at bluesky a couple of months ago). Never had a spec of trouble with em. Unlike the XTR m970 that I pulled....
Yea, they weigh a tad more than XT but they are stiff as heck and it's my fat a$$ that is in need of shaving more than a few grams.....
