    Any Deals on Hardtails?

My buddy is looking into getting an entry level mountain bike for under $1000. Currently lives in Texas, so mainly flat with a few small hills. Has anyone come across any great deals lately? Any help would be appreciated.

Performance probably is still closing out their bikes, or you can have him check any of his local bike shops for any discounted bikes that shops want to move. Sun and Ski and REI would be good to check as well.

That's a pretty decent bike if he likes 29ers and wants something geared towards "all mountain" versus something XC focused. This bike is a 1x10 though, which he may or may not like.

That's a smoking deal if you want an AM geo'd bike. Not for everyone. And not really designed for the Texas riding you described. Still a cool bike I'd buy.

I wish he lives in NC. About to put my 2012 Focus Black forest 1.0 with full XT on the market. I have ridden this thing 5 times before I decided to stick with road cycling.

The Dback is pretty nicely specd. The Haro has a carbon frame but the fork and brakes are not so great. Just depends what you're looking for; IMO if I was only looking to do fast XC then I'd probably go with the carbon frame and lighten up the rest of the components later, or you can get a 'heavier' alum frame but have a bike that's pretty much ready to go.

    Any Deals on Hardtails?

I'd go with the DB. Haro's not widely sold, and DB is. Also, the component spec is much better like matador said, and you can upgrade to a cool new frame later on.
