XTR Wheelset for $399?
Just wondering why this wheelset is so heavily discounted off the original MSRP of $1499. I used to have the 2009 9mm QR version of this wheelset and they were great, and am thinking about buying this version based upon my experience. But the low price has me wondering if they possibly have a defect I haven't heard of.

Well they're pretty narrow, but I haven't heard of the same issues the XT hubs were having on the XTR hubs so that is a positive. I seriously doubt they were ever listed at $1499, but probably were originally listed around $999. Shimano wheelsets have never really attained the desirable status that Mavic and others have.

If you're talking about the ones at BC, it looks legit. I'd do it if I were looking for a wheel set. 1500g wheels for $400 is a kick ass deal.

I was looking at these ones, but I think they're the same model:

That's a no brainer, slam dunk. If I still rode a 26" wheeled bike regularly I'd get them just to have as spares.

Well, THB, I posted in your other thread. So, for anyone else considering them, if 19mm internal width is OK, then a good way to go. I am impressed with my Trail set. Hard to beat the price for scandium (because that is better, right ).

Thanks all, I've gone ahead and placed the order for the XTR's. It's just too good a deal to pass up, so hopefully they'll hold up under some abuse.

I wish it was available in 20mm

Just FYI if anybody is still looking for an XTR Trail set. I see some are available at Department of Goods and Realcyclist for $350 including shipping I think. Great deal.

Nice find, thanks! I just grabbed the XTR Race for $399, but I'm going to return them and get these...more suited to my riding with the wider rim.

They're back up for $350, stock listed at qty:1. Just got mine in yesterday and I hope they roll as good as they look!
