    Wider 650 Butcher/DHF clone?

Just got my first 650b bike (new nomad) and it came with HR2 front and rear, which I just don't get along with. I know they are good tires, alot of folks love them... but not me. I've been running DHF, then Butcher for years on 26ers and still love them, but not so much the options I have in 650.

I bought the brand spanking new Butcher TR GRID 2.3, and I love the new Tubeless Ready GRID casing, seems pretty awesome so far, but it's a pretty small 2.3. I ran the SX casing 2.5 in front on my 26er and would love to find something that size.

There are a bunch of DHF clones, I'm hoping there are some that I'm not aware of in 650b that are wider. The DHF 650 only seems to come in 2.35, which i haven't seen in person, but given Maxxis sizing I assume is approximately a real world 1.9 or so. :-)

I rented a Session 9.9 that had the Bontrager G4 that was a very nice DHF clone, but I also don't see that available in 650b...

Anybody have any other suggestions? Should I post this to the 650 forum instead?

The DHF 650b comes in 2.3 only according to Maxxis web site

    Minion DHF | Maxxis USA

The good news is that the newer Maxxis tyres are pretty much true to size, the ETRTO numbers in the link above are a clue, 27.5 x 2.3 = 58mm wide, the older 26 x 2.5 are 55mm.

Well it's good to know Maxxis has resized their tires, I thought they were doing updated sizes only for 'new' tires and leaving the old ones the same for consistency... Thanks for pointing that out. At least that means if they come out with a 2.5 it'll be the size I'm looking for.

Unfortunately, that means they still only have a 2.3 size, and I still don't have anything to go to for a larger dhf-clone in 650... Anybody know if they are planning a 2.5 650 dhf? Or if specialized is planning a 2.4 or 2.5 Butcher 650? Or know of another tire maker with a larger dhf clone in 650b?

    Wider 650 Butcher/DHF clone?

Geax Goma is similar. Comes in a 2.4 (ertro 60) and has good reviews.

The 2.3" 650b DHF is still undersized (mine measures 2.2") but the larger contact patch (from the larger tire circumference) seems to make up for the lack of width.
IF I had the money, I would go with the Schwalbe clone - Magic Mary 2.35 (more like a 2.4) hands down!

    Have FUN!
