Smallest width tire for Velocity Blunt 29er rim

Got myself a pair of Velocity Blunts with XT hubs off eBay at a good price. Guess no one wanted pink rims. Thinking of using these for road and some light trail work so won't be needing the WTB Prowler SL Races which I also got off the same seller for the moment. Saw a lot of cyclocross tires but they usually run from 32 - 38 with the occasional lower 40s. What's the narrowest tire which you have used for the Velocity Blunt owners around? Its width is listed as 28mm and a site I came across said to go for 1.4 - 2 times that value which will put me somewhere around the 40 to 50mm range.

What I have in mind is something like the WTB All Terrain Comp at 700 x 38. Will this be safe to use with those 28mm width Blunt rims?

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

Thanks, Shiggy. Can I go any smaller because I see a lot more cyclocross intended tires for sale than 29er marked ones so if I know a safe range to play with, my choices are much wider.

Anything from ~32mm up is fine.

I have used Durano 28s on a 559 blunt without problem.
