Should changing the axle conversion plugs on my Stan's wheels be this difficult?

Picked up a set of Stan's Arch's. They came set up for QR and came with the plugs to convert to 15 mm. Holy cow these plugs are in there. They're pretty much impossible to get out. Any suggestions?

If you don't need to save the QR plugs, test grab one with pliers or vice grip and try to wiggle it free. If one wont come free in a few seconds then try the other side. When you have one side removed come at the other one from inside with something long and thin (but a little wider than a QR skewer) and tap. A little care and the only thing that will be scratched or damaged will be the QR plugs.

I had the same problem. I cut a thin strip of old inner tube and wrapped it tightly around the adapter. I then clamped some vice grips on the area that I had wrapped and twisted and pulled and pop, it came off. The inner tube saved the adapter from getting mangled by the vice grips but the adapter still came away with some scratches.

I greased the O-rings on mine once I got them out, and that made it very easy moving forward. I didn't have too much trouble getting them off initially though, using a skewer to pop them out.
