Rim suggestions for a dual-duty wheel?

I'm building a wheel w/a dynamo hub to use on my commuter bike but also want to be able to put it on my mtn bike for the occasional night ride. Does anybody have any experience/advice on a rim that would work well as a cross-over (or advice in general on this concept)?

I imagine I/m just going to be looking for a rim that is wider road rim and/or a narrower mtn rim but I thought I would check in w/the forums.

I'm not worried about weight at all. It would overwhelmingly be used for commuting, I don't night ride that much but my night rider battery is about dead so I'm switching to the dynamo (& supernova lamp). I don't night mtn bike nearly enough to justify another battery system.

    Info that might be useful:

    Hub: Shimano Alfine 32

    Commuter Tire: Schwalbe Dureme 700x40

Dirt Tire: whatever I have laying around but probably the stock tires that came off my Spec Epic 29er, they are 2.0 renegades I think.

Thanks very much in advance for any feedback.

A cross rim such as the Velocity A23 is worth looking at. I ride a set with road tires at road tire pressures.
Hey everybody, ride my wheels! They ride good, real good.
I'm a wheel builder. SRLPE Wheel Works. Send me a PM.
