Racing in the mud and snow. Tire suggestions??
Racing (Cat 3) on Sunday. 10 mile loop. Flat, hard packed (usually) singletrack.
March in Kansas is hard to predict!!
3 days ago the forecast was 50 and sunny and now the experts are saying 30 with snow! Plus, it is going to either rain or snow everyday until then except Wednesday!
Friday it was 84, today it's snowing!! We're all over the place!!
I run 26x2.1 a Specy Ground Control on the front and 26x1.9 Specy Fast Traks on the rear.
I never ride when it's gooey out as pretty much all trails around Kansas City are closed when its wet out.
I'm thinking I better at least switch out my rear for something with a lot more traction. Any suggestions?
Maybe move the GC to the rear and try something else on the front?
Thanks in advance.
In case it matters, I ride a 26" Hardrock HT.

Something with big volume and wide spaced tread blocks should work well.

The Ground Control is quite good in mud compared to most other tires. The wide knobs make sure that the tire doesn't get packed down. So moving the GC to the rear and looking for something else on the front sounds like a good idea.
Are there lots of slippery roots and rocks on the trails? If so, I'd look at Hans Dampf Trailstar as a front tire. If mud is the main problem, I'd look at the Maxxis Beaver, both front and rear if you don't mind spending the money.
