I have an American Classic 29er front wheel on a bike which I just built up (see here). However, after a fairly serious 3-hour ride at Kolapore on Saturday, I have notice a little play in the front end. I finally tracked this down to the hub, but it was tough.
The easiest way to demonstrate it is to hold the front (disk) brake locked and then lean gently on the handlebars and rock back and forth. The headset, fork, caliper and disk all stay locked together, but there is enough play in the front wheel for the rim to rotate about 1/8", maybe even 3/16", back and forth.
There is also a tiny bit of lateral play, more like 1/16" at the rim.
The back wheel, also Am. Classic, doesn't do this.
I took the wheel off but I cannot feel any play at all in the hub with my hands.
Is it just a question of loosening off the lock nut and tightening up, or what?
