    New 29er wheelset

OK, I gotta show off this new wheelset built by Steve at SRLPE -- built with my favorite UST rims, WTB i23s, and Chris King hubs. Geared in back, 15mm in front. Steve does such a great job.

These rims are made with a new alloy, WT69, so they are stronger and slightly lighter than previous i23s.

They will go on my On One carbon Lurcher.

Where did you find the WT69 version for sale at?

    New 29er wheelset

Steve at SRLPE -- 4slomo here on MTBR -- will have to answer. He sourced them.

These wheels are fantastic. Bought the hubs from Fanatik Bikes during their Christmas sale, had them sent straight to Steve, and he built up the wheels.

Got a Geax Gato TNT to go on the back wheel. Will run my current WTB Bronson Race TCS on the front, but might get a Michelin Wild Grip'R.

What's the weight of that wheelset and what spokes did you use? Do you have the weight of the rims?

    New 29er wheelset

Here are the specs on this wheelset, as provided by Steve when he sent them. This document speaks to Steve's professionalism and attention to detail:

    New 29er wheelset

Note that I would have preferred a black front hub, but silver was all that Fanatik Bikes had during their sale (something like 30% off, if I remember correctly). So, the silver hub will be great.

    New 29er wheelset

This wheelset is for AM use and a heavy rider -- me, at 205 lbs before pack/gear. Steve has taken a similar approach with other 26er and 29er wheels he has built for me. All are still true as arrows and have survived many rock gardens, roots, drops and crashes with no damage. Pretty amazing. I am a believer in finding and using an experienced wheel-builder.

SRLPE Wheel Works is a WTB dealer, and orders direct from WTB.

The WT69 rim weights for this wheel set are 509g and 523g. These rims were some of the first WT69 rims in the country.

    The spokes are Wheelsmith DB14.

The wheel set weight is 2,017g.
Hey everybody, ride my wheels! They ride good, real good.

Thanks for the answer. Still a little heavy for my tastes.

How did you end up with 450g of spokes? Or did you include valves and stems and axle?

The spokes weigh about 380g and the brass nipples 64g. Durability is one of the wheel design criteria.
