    Are My Spokes Too Long

Howdy ~ It just doesn't "feel" right so here I go, I'll keep it short as I can...

    Laceing 32h 3X 29"

    Disk Side = 290
    Drive Side = 292

Turn ALL nipps thight just to the end of the spoke threads

Turn ALLL nipps tight 3 turns still loose so ALL nipps 3 more turns

Ok getting a bit of tension but still loose so ALL nips 2 turns tight

    So 8 turns in now

Alright now I got some tension, lets spin it, OH but WAIT..look at my DISH
About 1/2 the rim distance towards the Drive Side
Looking at the spoke ends they are ALL at about the bottom of the slot on top of every nipp.

OK turn Disk side 2 x tight better but need more towards Disk Side

Turn Disk side tight 1 x and turn Drive side loose 1x

OK good dish now with a slight wave so I work the majic and make the wheel spin true, BUTT >>

Looking at the spoke ends my Disk side it WAY at the TOP of the nipps and the Drive side is BELOW the bottom of the nip's slot arrrgggg

^^that is too much difference right?
Feel like I wnat to buy 16 288s and get rid of thoes 290s?

When you first start to achive tension shouldn't dish be ALOT closer than what I have to start with?

I did this twice,t he first time I saw the spoke ends at the very top of the nipps I loosed it all up back to the start at the bottom of the threads...
Second tension attempt gave me same results
Is my Disk side spoke too long?

    Thanks For reading and replying
    Burt

Screwit, I'm gonna order the 288s and see if my dish is more better at the start. All the reading tells me I'm on the right path and if I can start with the disk side over or shorter at the start I feel my dish will be much much closer with minimal "streching" one way or the other..
    Happy Friday :-p

if the long ones need to be shorter and the short ones need to be longer it sounds like you swapped the spoke lengths left-to-right.

If the spokes are correctly sized then the dish should be pretty close when the nipples are evenly threaded on either side. I agree with Meltingfeather, maybe you have them reversed? It's OK if the spokes are all the way to the top of the nipple when tensioned, even slightly beyond is sometimes alright.

    OK thanks
I double checked and I did it right, my first thought..oh crap I gottum backwards..nope.
I think what is was the Disk side came up with the number 289.1 and I did 290 and should have when't down to 288, then my dish would have been way closer..from what I have been reading anyway.
    Hub is Front disk
