Maxxis Aspen vs Rocket Ron Tire wear

    Hi,

Does anybody have experience in comparing tire wear with maxxis aspen 's vs rocket ron's

And has anyone succesfully setup an aspen tubeless?

I want to try the aspens since its a whole lot cheaper but not sure about its tire wear if it lasts longer than schwalbe's

Both wear very fast. Ran tubeless on both. Rocket Ron very grippy at first. Aspen super fast but soon started losing traction quick. Ron started peeling knobs after 2.5 months of riding.

I had an Aspen on my bike, and my wife's has RR's, so I guess I can pitch in here. I set up both tubeless with Stan's sealant. Aspens on an Arch rim, RR's on Giant's stock rim.

I shredded the sidewall on the Aspen after only ~200 miles or so. I really liked the tire otherwise--super fast rolling, grip not to bad given the low low knobs--but the sidewalls didn't last. The terrain I ride isn't terribly rocky, either. Mostly hardpack, with the occasional rock garden.

The RR's on my wife's Anthem, on the other hand, are still fine after ~1 year of use. The seem like they might last another season. She is a light rider, though, and not prone to smashing into rocks 'n such like me.

I set up the 29x2.1 Aspen that came with my Karakoram tubeless on the rear wheel of my Black Flag Pros with absolutely no issues the first time, inflating with just a floor pump. When it came time to break a seal on each and clean out the Aspen (rear) and 2.25 Ardent TR (front), the Ardent was easy to pump up with a floor pump, but the Aspen wouldn't reseat, and I took it down to a gas station to inflate. Never had an issue with burping or anything else running the Aspen tubeless outside of needing to swing by the gas station to re-inflate that one time.

I haven't ridden Rocket Rons, so I can't comment on wear between the two, but I do like the Aspen as a rear tire on an XC bike. Not enough grip for me to like it as a front tire.

The Aspen for me actually wears a lot better then the RR, but wear does not really matter when the Aspen sidewall gets ripped every 50 miles. If you are doing gravel or road the Aspen is great. Any thing that looks like rock cuts the sidewalls easily.
