    Loose spokes with XX1

Wondering if anyone else had this problem. After about 3 months of use my rear wheel spokes were extremely loose. To the point where my rear wheel made a squishy sound when breaking and cornering. Wasn't sure if the extra torque from the 42 tooth cassette made this happen. Never had this happen before.

Whomever built your wheel didn't tension and/or stress relieve it properly. It's not a torque problem, it's a wheelbuild problem. A standard 3x9 drivetrain can put more torque on the rear wheel than a XXI, and they don't loosen off unless the build was botched.

Have a good wheel builder go over your wheel to fully tension and stress relieve it. Once that's done you're good to go.

Neither XX1 or 3x9 will put more torque. All will put exact same torque as torque is propotionnal to speed and power (P = C * w).

    Well, yes.

But due to the gearing on the bike, the wheel absolutely will see more torque applied at the rear hub when you have lower gearing (fewer gear inches / greater gear ratio) and of course a more powerful rider. a triple with a 22x36 lowest gear certainly is fewer gear inches than any XX1 chainring would give, thus the comment about 3x9 making more torque.

aerius is probably also correct that the OP's wheel was not built properly.

however, there is also the possibility that an undesireable wheel and tire combination was selected, which fit overly tight and has removed spoke tension. if you put a UST tire on a stans BST rim this is a possible (maybe even likely) outcome.
