    hybrid for my 29.

I need to cut costs, and considering a set of hybrids for my 29er instead of dropping 2K on my new road bike, I have a set of Rovals that are 26mm wide, and was wondering if anyone could give me heads up on the thinnest tire possible I could run, I dont want to chew up my mtbr tires on the road, but like the idea of adding extra miles for leg strength and stamina.
and dont have the option to be in the woods everyday. Thanks

General rule of thumb is a tire that is at least the same width as the rim is safe. So if you went with common hybrid sizes like 28c or 32c they would fit just fine.
