Did some reading about the Sun Ringle Black Flag Pro 26er. Weight is great, prices are good, questions about freehub marring and spoke breakage.
Friend is 185 pounds, trail rider with no jumps or big rocks, but he does charge every downhill HARD.
Price is about $350 delivered.
The Black Flag Expert supposedly uses same rim, but steel freehub. Weight is about 1750 grams. Wish the rims were a bit wider on both Sun Ringle wheels....
Option is to take his oem hubs (DT Swiss 370) and get a pair of Pacenti TL28 or Arch EX 32H, Sapim Laser with aluminum nipples from Dan's Comp and hand them over to my trusted master wheelbuilder.
Rims: about $150
Spokes: from Dan's Comp, about $60 delivered both wheels
Labor: $40 each, $80 total
Not a lot in savings, but money saved is money saved.
Are the Pro wheels a durable reliable option for my friend and his needs? Or would he be better off with the aforementioned build?
