    Geax Mezcal 26x2.3 review

Today my new Geax Mezcal tires showed up. I got the standard 26x2.3 size which Geax considers an all mountain size so it has the thicker 60tip sidewall. The tire was fairly easy to get on my Stans conveted Rolf wheels and had a very positive pop when the bead seated. The tire was a hair under its indicated size on my narrow rims, 18mm inside width so once i get some 20+mm rims they will be true to size or even a little bigger. The tire measured 2.23 when measuring the body of the tire and not the knobs that stick out even further. The thing I like the most is they are .42in taller than the 26x2.1 IRC Mythos XC they replaced so I have a lot more air volume which is what I really wanted plus this give me a touch more pedal to ground clearance which will be nice in the rocky sections. I'll add some pictures of the tires tomorrow and will be hitting the trail with them Saturday.

The fork is a 2003 Manitou Black Elite for size reference.

bmwjnky, how did the Mezcal 2.3 turn out for you?

I just bought one to use as a rear tire. I have a few front tires to pick from but was going to start with a 26x2.2 Maxxis Ardent Race.

I used the 2.3 as a rear tire and it's OK. It is a fast roller, so brake traction is limited like a lot of the newer tires we see. The side knobs are not as pronounced, but still good.
Lead by my Lefty............... right down the trail, no brakes.

Mounted it, but no time to hit the trail today. I like the shoulder knob size, shape & placement. It was hard to tell about those from pics.

Regarding braking, since I'm using it in the rear, it doesn't need to be awesome. It has to be better than a Michelin Wild Race'R, and I rode all last summer on that.
