    DT Swiss EX 5.1d Question?

My LBS is pushing the DT Swiss EX 5.1d over any other rim. I was wonder if this is a good rim or would you recommend anything else?

    Here is the setup:

    • Chris King ISO Disc Front / Rear Hub (Red)

    • DT Champion spoke (Black)

    • DT 2.0 alloy nipple (Red)

    • DT Swiss EX 5.1d 32

Any comments or opinions are much appreciated!!!

    depends what your doing...

if your hucking gaps and drops, probably too soft.

if youre not too hard on your rims, its a great light weight choice.

Mostly single track with a 4 ft drop here and there. They are going on a 2008 Trek Fuel EX 8. I am 6'3 and weigh 245.

for that use, it sounds like a good rim for the job IMO

    The 5.1d is an...

excellent Trail and AM rim. They are resoanbly light, but very strong. When properly built they are very close to bomb proof. Not totally indestructable of course but they build a very nice wheel.

The only thing I would change on your build is the spokes. I'd go DT Comp spokes. The butted spoke will give you a bit less weight, less bend in the spokes where they cross one another and will build a more resiliant wheel. Your choice on that one though. The straight gauge Champs will build a tad bit stiffer wheel, but not so you'd notice.

Anyway, should build up a good solid wheel for you.

    Good Dirt
