    They're out of stock.

I've been looking too for the last 2 weeks and everyone has gone out of stock and prices have shot way up. Amazon had some for like $48 but now the cheapest is > $74.

The cheapest they can be purchased right now (in stock) looks to be Tree Fort Bikes at $54.99. You should try Tree Fort's price matching and see if they'll raise it up to $90 to match Universal Cycles.

Maybe they're trying to make back all the lost revenue from replacing chipped ones for free. Or maybe they're made out of an exotic super strong metal now.

Just received a 36 ratchet set from Excel Sports for $35. They look to be the best deal and they're currently in stock at the moment.

Twohubs is now up to $59 and they still don't have them in stock.

I emailed DT Swiss and asked them, this is the response they gave me:

"Thanks for the inquiry. No, the 36t ratchet kits are not being discontinued, and retailers are not gouging you. We have in fact tripled the price of that item in the last few months. Apparently we had the ratchets considerably under priced to begin with, and the new wholesale price reflects a more accurate cost for that item."

    No longer available at Excel.

Best deal I could find with shipping to Canada was Bikewagon at $42.99 + shipping

I think I'll build a new wheel before I give dt 75 more dollars for an unreliable upgrade. $40 kind of made the constant warranty returns ok but $75 is ridiculous. its still half the engagement of a king and every set I have had eventually chips and slips under torque.

Also wondered where the price difference came from, CRC charges over 60 pounds for the 36T set.. If only the quality and durability of the ratchets would improve I'd be willing to buy another pair, the last ones I bought lasted for only three months before breaking down completely and leaving me stranded out in the night.. I think it's a shame DT dares to triple the price for an -in my opinion- inferior product. I'll stick with slower engagement for a while (not a spot on my 16t's after months of riding..).

I got an email from an ebay seller informing me about this

36+ Step Star Ratchets for DT Swiss Hubs (190, 240, 440) by Connor Gleason ? Kickstarter

There really isn't a whole lot of information provided, but it's something.

I backed this Kickstarter project yesterday. $30 is a pretty good deal...
Worst case, I'll get my money back if the project does not get the expected funds!

Talked to a rep yesterday about the cost increase, he said what he had heard was they were originally supposed to be $30 per piece, not $30 total. So to recoup some of the lost money, they're charging $80 now. He agreed it was nonsense, but what can you do.
I imagine the ones being offered in the Kickstarter project will work with the 350 hubs even though it doesn't specifically mention them, anyone know for sure?

As far as I know the 350 internals are the same as the 240s internals.

I backed the project as well, hope he can really come up with a reliable 36+ tooth ratchet.

DT has some intellectual property around their star drive and ratchet interface. It's why everyone licenses stuff from DT rather than copying it.

I don't see that guy selling many of those things.

DT does have a patent on their star ratchet. I'm curious if syntace is licencing it or if they got around it by using a different spring arrangement - the patent may only cover the engagement of the two ratchets and not the way the force is applied to them. and i agree - doubt the funding will happen, too much of a niche product.

I was referring to the part about someone from DT legal sending the guy a letter and telling him to knock it off.

Right - i was just reiterating that and commenting on the syntace system as a possible way this guy could be in the legal clear.

I looked at one of the DT patents briefly. I don't think it will cover the parts this guy is trying to sell through kickstarter. He isn't selling a hub, just some parts that go into a hub.

Looked up the Syntace hub, I didn't look at their design enough to know how they were getting around the patent. It looks like they aren't..

Sorry to bump old thread. Is $90 the norm now for this? Is there a place to get the upgrade cheaper?
