The amazing collapsing Bonty 29r Xlite wheel: unlucky or bad design?
I had a fairly simple fall about 6 weeks ago and got up and noticed the front wheel was all jacked up. Thought I must have landed on it harder than I thought. Fast forward couple rides with new rim and spokes, I did the same thing. Hit a root and felt the rim just buckle and snap as I dumped the bike.
Completely cracked at the seam after a fairly innocuous fall. I had the pleasure carrying my bike for 2+ miles through mosquito valley. Yay me.
I can't imagine that my crashes were bad enough to destroy the wheels. I rode for years and years on a set of Dave's Speed Dream without anything like this happening. Can it be that I just got unlucky or are the Bonty 29'r wheels that much more fragile?

couple friends have had bikes that had various bonty components.....from what i have seen stuff like this is typical. they broke parts with little effort, tubless rims wouldn't hold air, new tires grew huge blisters.....after seeing all this stuff, i personally wouldn't put a single bonty component on my bike. both guys have sh*t canned all their bonty parts. good luck.

well...the tubeless rims have done well for me. i'm running the stock jones tire up front and a stans in the rear. no problems holding air and i'm not upset with the performance of the tire. plus my road wheelset and tires are bonty and i've been pleased with them as well.
i'm just pretty upset that i'm having the wheel issues on my otherwise awesome bike.

xlight are that, light. The Rythmns seem to hold up a lot better.
I am a clyde and have some Select 26er wheels and they are holding up pretty well so far.

I think they are pretty light to begin with and if there is any sort of manufacturing defect, you're going to see the ground in a hurry. You have to be especially careful not going too light with 29er wheels.

they're stock wheels so i can't imagine they are too light for the application. i do ZERO jumping/drops and am not a clyde.
