12mm axle in 10mm drop outs???

I just purchased a wheel set that can be converted to 12mm axle. The threaded portion of the axle that sits inside the dropout measures 11.65mm. My dropouts mic at 10.25mm...can I just drill out the dropouts to accommodate? There is a ton of meat on the back end of the dropout, so not really worried about getting too close...what do you think? Pipe dream? Or do able?

How would you secure a 12mm through axle in open dropouts?

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common

    Azonic Momentum Axle 12mm X 135mm | Azonic | Brand | www.PricePoint.com

Azonic did (discontinued now) a step down bolt-up axle that let you run a 135x12mm hub in a 135x10mm quick release frame without having to drill anything out.

Pricepoint still have them in stock and I'd recommend one of those over taking a drill to your frame, even with shipping it will be under $20.

Sun Ringlé also have a 135 X 12 bolt on axle that steps down to 10mm. that should work. It's also fairly cheap and any LBS should be able to order it for you I agree that I would not take a file or Dremel to my frame.

The trouble with having an open mind is that people will insist on trying to put things in it.
