1.8 or 2.1 Medusa for mud and snow

I'm looking for some tires for mud and snow and I was thinking of the Maxxis Medusa. The 1.8 would seem to work by sinking down to solid ground. But it would need higher pressure to stop pinch flats which goes against traction. Would the 2.1 float on top of the muck? Are there any other tires that you would recomend?
    Thanks

No tire short of an Endomorph "floats on top of the muck."

Either width Medusa will work. The softer/deeper/goopier the conditions, the narrower I prefer the tires. Low pressure does little to help traction in the slop.

The trouble with common sense is it is no longer common
