Winter Business Trip to Vancouver, BC
Going to be travelling in January or February to Vancouver and need some tips on whether it would be worth it to stay an extra day or two. I'm pretty open to whatever but the big caveat as I have a tiny budget. I was considering doing some snowshoeing but if someone has a good idea for something outdoorsy to do while in the area that would be cool. I've never been to the region and would like to get a good taste of it in a short amount of time.
At the rate we're going you could easily be riding a bike up to maybe 500m of elevation, snow has been sparse so far this year. It could easily be very wet and mild-ish, or clear and cold, those are the two typical conditions. Wet and 4-8C and 90% humidity, or dry and clear and maybe 0-2C and 60% humidity down below 300m, and it would likely be 5-8C colder at the mountain tops. Or it could be 10C warmer on the mountain tops if there's an inversion and the city is fog bound.
Snowshoe rentals available at Hollyburn on Cypress and on Mt Seymour. XC skiing at Hollyburn, and downhill skiing at Cypress, Grouse and Seymour.
Hiking opportunities at Pacific Spirit Park out by UBC, at Stanley Park, and on the North Shore at Lynn Valley Headwaters and Ecology Centre parks, and in the Lower Seymour Demonstration Forest.
How much are rental rates for a trail bike if it turns out that whether is doing ok? Are shops still renting bikes in the winter? I have my own snowshoes so that's not a concern although having good snow sounds like it is the bigger concern.
