Is 'Top of The World' worth it?

So friends are thinking we should do the 'Top of the World' trail in Whistler when we're up there the end of this summer

In fact, I've had a hair up my butt about it for a while and I'm doing all the 'yeah we should go do it it'll be epic' talking. 'Yeah, bring the full face and the DH pads. It'll be awesome'.

And then I watched this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8H45JupDfo and like the wee lad who learns that Santa isn't real, my dreams have been crushed.

Thoughts? Is it worth it? If it sucks, I'll never, ever head the end of it.

    aloha, Oni

That's a terrible video. Read this and decide for yourself - it was on PB's front page

Whistler's alpine is the Top of the World by leelau - Pinkbike

Bear in mind the trail is now 2x the length from the above article as its now completed. Search MTBR and the full trail is depicted on the front page in an article by KRob

Good job! It's on my list...

...for all the reasons Lee mentions (although I'm not a hippie really )... the biggest being I don't get pure alpine riding in that often so I'll happily take the opportunity.

Most of the jump and drop line gravity stuff at Whistler doesn't interest me nearly as much.

Ohhhh....thanks for the link. I just read it, good article and the pictures made it look really nice. You're right, it's a different kind of ride.

And you can hook into Kyber Pass....hummm...

Totally worth it, nice to escape the rat race of the lower park for a morning or afternoon.

The trailheads of Kyber Pass, Babylon by Bike and Ride don't Slide should be gained by pedaling up from the Microwave Road. Sorry for being the trail police!

BTW.. Top of the World is definitely worth it. The scenery is amazing and riding through snow is sureal in the summer!..

Doing it. Have convinced the bike guys it's worth it, and there's been a lot of good footage with the recent EWS race. Looks like fun!

So went to the ticket desk today to find out about tickets. The girl behind the counter couldn't quite figure out if we could book ahead of time or we had to come and get tickets that morning. She was even more confused when I told her we didn't want a park pass, just wanted to ride that trail. She then asked me if we knew how to ride bikes.

So I think we'll go Wednesday. :-) Looking forward to it

Funny reaction from someone who should know the ins and outs of that stuff.

You'll probably have the place to yourself on a Wednesday.

Is 'Top of The World' worth it?

I could be wrong, but when I was there last week you needed to purchase a bike park pass, then the top of the world ticket in addition to it.

The reason was because the Top of the World trail ends in the Garbo zone of the bike park and you take the bike park trails down to the village. Also the bike park trails you end up on are black level trails, that's why the ticket sellers have to ask if you're expert level riders.

    That was my experience anyways.

I was glad I used my Dh bike on it rather than my trail bike. The extra suspension was nice on the rocks and holes at the top part. Also the braking bumps in the park just rattle the heck out of you. There was one uphill fire road section that I pushed up with the dh bike but at that point I was recovering from the arm pump and enjoying the views of black tusk mountain.

Oh good lord. That was a good trail. Rode it today and totally enjoyed it. So different from anything any of my group had ever done before. Found the beginning section to sketchy, what with all the rocks. Most of us were on 6" travel bikes (which were ok, but not great). One of the guys was on a 3" Giant NRS and ended up walking a fair bit, but he totally loved it as well.

Thanks for all the advice, again, glad we did it.

I was one of the crew with Oni and it was great. We aren't park riders so it ended up being a great experience for us. We did the TOTW to Khyber to Babylon to Tunnel Vision. It ended up being a pretty epic day for us. Come arrest us, trail police!
