Their Facebook confirms it. Guess they never really did recover after the fire. Sad...

Yeah, sad turn of events. The club got an email from Tom yesterday afternoon confirming receivership and when I went by the shop this morning, a BDO bankruptcy form was tapped to the door.

I have nothing but good thoughts and prayers for all the staff and owners at RVC. I still remember checking out Cannondales with my grandpa when they were over by the ravine on Whyte. A special kudos to Scott for giving me the guidance (and courage) to completely dissamble my bike and to put it all back together again.

It's going to be weird for me to sign some other name other than "RVC" when Fat Tire Tuesdsays start up again next year...

That sucks. I got my beloved Kona from them this spring, and they seemed like a good group.

Indeed.. they were the first bike shop I knew. Friend of mine bought a Hahanna from them when we were in grade 11, and I was amazed that such a shop even existed. Ended up doing a weeks worth of work experience for credits in grade 12 on Whyte, and we'd go riding afterwards.

    Good times, they'll be missed.

Definite bummer, dealt with those guys for decades starting with when they picked up my old club Tatonka as the main sponsor back in the early 90's and have remained friends with several of the owners past and present.
    Shame...

That sucks. I almost didn't believe it either. Syd, Kristie and the guys were pretty cool.

^ should. Most shop clubs are independant of the shop themselves.

Dang....I go out of town, get sick and hardly get out much for a couple weeks and this is what I find when I come back. Sucks worse than Chumba! Syd, Scott and all were great people...heck, they steered me right on the Jake for the Ride and for commuting.

    Whatta bummer!

I remember going to the old races in the 90s such as the Mudpuppy and Monkeytoucher. Great races! That was back when you got a t-shirt for entering a race and they actually had good prizes....

Not that I want to poke a stick at RVC, but if anyone has a Kona and needs service / warranty stuff, Mud, Sweat & Gears out in Sherwood Park is a Kona dealer and may be the only one in metro anymore.

Don't forget "Shock the Monkey!" and "The Monkey Tamer!"

Long live the "Monkey Toucher 250".
