I've got a stock 2011 trek x-cal 29er. The plan is to shed as much weight from it as possible over the winter. I'd like to stick around $500 or less... I weigh 195 so yeah I can lose a lot there. After next season I'll be on the hunt for a carbon frame.
Here are the things I'm looking at beside my gut - please chime in if you see anything I could do better with on a budget...
Stan's Arch EX wheelset (used - hunting for an ebay deal)
Easton EC70 carbon stem
EC70 MonkeyLite 685mm
Selle Italia SLR saddle
Bontrager Race XXX lite seatpost (I read these have a problematic bolt design)
1x10 conversion. Thinking 36t up front and 11-36 out back. Any recommendations on a chain guide?
I've got the stock tires on it, but since I'll be changing out to a tubeless setup... I can look at new rubber.. though I live in Boise where goatheads constantly puncture tires so I'm not sure how thin I can go.
