New Raceface Next SL Crankset weights

Hi all. Just recieved my new 2014 Next SL crankset. Looks nice and the modular idea is a no brainer. I will be using it as a single speed over winter and switching to geared during the racing season.

    Here are the individual weights.

    Crankarms/spindle/lockring: 394g
    104/64 spider and bolts: 67g
    36T: 63g
    24T: 21g
    single speed spiderless 32T: 68g

    So, 36/24 setup is 545g
    and ss 32T is 462g

What type of bb are you using? When I placed my order, my LBS didn't know exactly which bb would be compatible. It's a 30mm spindle, from my understanding.

The cranks are actually compatible with most BB types. I think they may just use smaller bearings to allow the 30mm.
I use a pressfit 92 (Pivot Les), but my LBS ordered the wrong one, so I have to wait for the correct one.

What is msrp (polite way of not asking what you actually paid) on the new SL crank?
Weight vs XTR 985 is what I should google next...

Weight of 985 ranges from 630-650g depending on rings.
MSRP in US is posted on RaceFace website. I live in Canada so different pricing.
Tells you various weights as well with different combos. My weights were measure on my scale.

I'm running XTR 985 Race with single ring. Wondering if the weight difference is even 80 grams. But on one bike I'm running a 150g Praxis Conversion bb which adds to the weight weenie issue.

Nice weights, though about 30g heavier than the Sworks cranks. Can you tell us how much the spindle weighs - curious to compare to a Hollowgram one since the RF is supposedly some new miracle alloy.

    It's around 100g. I haven't removed it yet though.

The bearings in the BB92 are the same size as in a standard 24mm setup (and there are more of them). We didn't undersize them like some manufacturers have done.

83g for 134mm length with no strength decrease - miracle indeed...

Thanks for the info. I'm wondering if part of the reason for the lower weight than the hollowgram spindles is the fact that you are designing for a much better (wider) bearing placement, whereas the hollowgrams cantilever a decent distance... Anyway, nice to see someone (you) making a well thought-out crank that'll work with any frame!

On a related note, are the splines on 30mm cranks generally the same across different manufacturers? The RF splines look by eye to be identical to Cannondale, or even the SRAM BB30 crank end (admittedly the other end is fixed in the arm). Could someone use one of your spindles with an existing hollowgram crankset and your BB? (q factor would increase by 2mm of course and chainline by 1mm due to 134mm vs 132mm)

Our splines are very similar to Cannondales. I can't go as far as to call them compatible because we cannot know what tolerances they allow in their system.

Other manufacturers who use a similar looking spline are actually very different from our system.

    I hope that helps.
    Thanks for riding Race Face!

I'm afraid not. Only the 2014 model will take a spiderless ring.

I'm waiting on a set that I ordered a couple months ago direct to Race Face through my local shop. Sounds like people are getting them, should I assume mine are on the way to the shop or are there any further delays on the 32t direct mount setup?
    Have a nice ride!

E-mail us at components@raceface.com and we should be able to look into it.
