What's up, fellas...
I normally have no business even looking at lightweight parts, but I'm currently building my wife a bike and since she's significantly lighter than I am, I'm getting to have some fun and build a light bike.
The frame is a medium Salsa Spearfish. I have a Reba Race for it and have just purchased an XT crankset, Hope Pro 2 hubs, Stan's Crest rims, 2.0-1.7-1.8 spokes, alloy nipples, a Niner RDO stem and Loaded Carbon handlebars.
What I'm looking for help with is a Cassette and brakes.
The bike doesn't have to be the ultimate lightweight, but I am looking at dollar-lightness-strength as I pick parts.
While I would LOVE to put an XTR cassette on it, I really don't want to spend 225 dollars on it.
I like to use Avid brakes on all my family's bikes so when we travel, I can kind of carry stuff in the truck to cover most problems we might encounter, but I'm kind of leaning toward Shimano since they appear a little nicer and possibly lighter.
What do you guys like?
