How to Run 2x9 circa 1997

Found an old copy of mountain bike magazine. Hopefully this helps people who want to run 2x9.

    1. i think compact double mtn cranks is the future for those who run gears up front, just like it did for road bikes.specialized, Fsa,stronglight and cannondale already are doing for it,plus more im sure. there is no benefit to a triple ring unless you are a total noodle-leg.
or maybe a future xc version of hammerschmidt will end the bad front shifting.

    2. MTBA are idiots then, and still are now.

Maybe 2x9 is all you need on 8 or 9 kg xc bike, but triple is a must-have in a 140/140mm all mountain.
