    Taylor Mountain RR

Took advantage of the good weather and rode Taylor today. Overall trail conditions were good. The birds are out and some flowers are just starting to bloom. Whiskey is dry but chopped up in places, same with Mt. Beaver. Carey creek has a long mud hole and stream running down part of it near the beginning but is rideable after that. A lot of work has been done to the watershed portion of the trail and looks good. Holder Knob and Ridge are riding smooth and fast.

As the replanted forest continues to grow the trail is getting more crowded and a lot of corners are blind. Taylor is a fun, fast system but with mixed use there are often other people on the trail. Flying downhill around the now blind corners is a bad idea.

Also, a lot of horses but the equestrians seem to be getting more friendly. Just talk to them and the horses. You will usually have to dismount but not a big deal.

That's one thing I like about night riding at Taylor. You can go as fast as you want because anyone out on the trail will have a light too!

I rode Taylor this morning(done by noon) -- took advantage of the cold temperatures. All the usual mud pits(and everything else) was frozen solid. Little bumpy but no slip sliding sloshing - good grippy surface and NO need to clean the bike afterwards.

If you ever wanted to tick this ride off your list without the mud mess(about 9 months a year) or the nettles and blackberries(about 2 months a year) - get it while it's frozen-in the next day or two.

Frozen solid - tires just glide right over this

Note clean tires -- near the top of Holder Ridge

Even the few horse turds were frozen.
