    RR: Packwood Lake family ride

Rolled the dice at the last minute on this one from the 1989 Kirkendall book with a little extra internet searching, and it turned out to be just about the most perfect off road kid/family biking day trip we've done. 4 pretty flat miles in on a gated off road bed through lush forest with great peek-a-boo views of Rainier to a lovely lake (where the bikes have to be left as it's the Wilderness boundary)... then hammock hanging, playing in water, eating food... and back out. I didn't see the time on my bike 'puter at the end but we got to the lake in under an hour of riding time from the truck. Of course there were lots of water and candy breaks, lol.

Getting late in the season probably but HIGHLY recommended for herding short people along to a fun destination with awesome scenery the whole time. Always nice to find a ride where everyone returns with a smile regardless of age, skill level, or what they're most interested in.

Lots of motos on that road last time I was out there, hopefully it was quieter for you all.

Only saw one moto which was parked up by the lake the whole time. Never even heard any.

Whew! That's such a pretty place to camp and hang out, but our first time there we didn't know it was popular with motos too. First night we heard nothing but drunk guys revving quad engines until 3:00 AM. I'd love to go back sometime when i could appreciate the views more....
