New Trail Parking Along Maple Valley Hi-way coming soon!!

Our friends from King County Parks wanted me to get the word out:

    ATTENTION
The construction of the parking lot on the west side of Maple Valley-Black Diamond RD SE will commence on or around May 1, 2013.
Parking along the west shoulder and the trail leading into the west side will be closed during construction hours. Both will be open in the evening and on weekends.
Construction should be finished approximately two weeks from start with completion by June 1, 2013.

The west side location is at the spot where lots of riders already park, but they are going to make it bigger and a more legit parking area. Next phase will be an even larger area on the east side of 169.

Glad to hear they are finally getting this going! It is really needed out there. The current area fills up by 10am on weekends.
How visible will the lot be from the road? If it is too hidden, it might make it a tempting spot for thieves.

Great question Mr. Lynch. Security and good vehicle visibility was one of the main items we discussed with the county. The west side lot will be the smaller and the lot will be longer east and west. I was hoping this lot would be north and south but apparently there were some constraints. The east side lot will be bigger and should be have better visibility since the plan is to open up the sight lines (clear the brush) between the lot and the hiway.

This is fantastic news. On another practical matter, ahem, are toilets also part of the plan?

I thought that is what trees were for??

This first phase of parking is a very low budget project. No lights, gravel surface and no bathrooms.

LOL, that's what I use now but let's just say some of the best spots near the existing parking area are about worn out!
