    I need a favor, please

I crashed tonight out at tokul west. had to walk out, and about half way out i realized my garmin edge 800 had come off in the crash. i have a broken humerus, so i'm off the bike for a couple months, and the way i feel, i don't think i'll be walking any more than i have to in the near term.

At the end of outback, right before the extension, there is a tree down above the trail. i crashed maybe 20 yards before the tree. if anyone is out there, i'd appreciate if you'd take a quick look around for the device. if you find it, please pm me. i'd love to buy a 6p of your favorite suds for the trouble.

    thanks.

Mike and I are planning on going out tomorrow morning and we'll take a look for it. Which route did you walk out on? We'll also check along that too if we can't find it at the crash site.

Bummer on the crash and breakage.

I'll look for it today. Is it black? Or any color?

    Heal up quickly.

    Cheers,
    Mike

i walked the trail/doubletrack up from the outback/outback ext junction, passed bottom of steakhouse and on out to the road. then down the road to top of beaverpond, which is where i saw i was missing it. thanks for checking. funny i can have the thing for so long and draw a blank on color. here's a picture.

Ok...do you happen to remember if you fell to one side or the other off the trail? When you said the tree over the trail...you mean the one that forms an arch? I know exactly where that one is and can search uphill from there.
I'll let you know later how the search goes.
Late January usually has a nice late dry spell for you to get back on the bike.

    Cheers,
    Mike

yes, maybe 20 yards before the tree that forms the arch. i fell a little to the right side, but i think the bike was more centered in the middle of the trail.

Bummer indeed. Shoved my right humerus through my scapula breaking off the acromion in mid July. Still not right. Had to ride out 5-6 miles on the moto like that. No pushing option there. But, would like to know if there is something I/we can do to the trail there if needed to make it safer. I usually rip down through there pretty fast and know there are a few "lane changes" that throw some off.

this was my first t west night ride. i missed a couple places i normally fly over, so i should have known to slow up a little. i think i hit a log that was right up next to the trail, but it happened so fast i could be wrong. as soon as it happened i got right up and started walking because i knew what i was feeling wasnt something i could shake off in a couple minutes. so, i spent no time trying to figure out what i hit.

    Freakybro,

Send me a message where we can meet up...can you drive right now? No biggie if you can't. I'll figure out a way to get the Garmin to you. Luckily, your Garmin was right on the edge of the trail and easy to spot. Glad no one had run over it or horse stepped on it.

My highly developed CSI skills (not!) took a look around where you crashed. Looks like there some fresh gouges out of the rocks in the trail from a pedal strike...maybe you? Did you land right at the tree arch? Lots of beating down brush there.
I also looked around the area and there are a fair amount of chopped blow downs that are only a 1-2 ft off the trail. I'll get a chainsaw up there and clear those 4-5 logs back. Should make for some safer landing zones. I'd also like to get a work party going up there as the ferns are definitely covering the trail making it extra tough to see stuff at night.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Funnily enough, he has ridden around Roslyn/Cle Elum a lot more than I have. He's stealthy.
