Evergreen East : Official Press Release

A new chapter of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, named Evergreen East, has been formed which will serve mountain bikers across the Inland Northwest. The organization was previously known as the Fat Tire Trail Riders Club and now has the organizational support of Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance, Washington's largest mountain bike advocacy group. Evergreen East promotes responsible mountain biking, sustainable trail building, and improved trail access.

Evergreen East strives to create more recreational opportunities in the region by working with land managers and other user groups. "We have had a lot of success building positive relationships with landowners at Beacon Hill," said Peter Jantz of Evergreen East. "The Fat Tire Trail Riders were responsible for creating trail maps and hosting many trash cleanups and trail work days at Beacon Hill. I am confident that mountain bikers can have a positive impact on other areas as well."

Currently, Evergreen East is working with Washington State Parks to develop a mountain bike trail plan at Mt. Spokane.

"It has been a very long two years, but we are excited to finally be able to begin moving dirt at Mount Spokane. For the first time in the history of Washington State Parks we will be offering a mountain bike specific trail dedicated to providing a true top to bottom experience for riders of all levels," said John Henry of Evergreen East. "Coupled with much needed trail repairs and re-routes, as well as an extensive signage plan, the experience of using the park for all users will be vastly improved."

Evergreen East, a non-profit organization, represents all forms of mountain biking and plans on providing group rides, skills clinics and trail workdays.

Becoming a member helps ensure all mountain bikers have more places to ride as we advocate tirelessly for new trails and continued access to existing trails. Local dollars stay local. Members also recieve special deals on Evergreen events and classes, and on products and services from participating companies.

Many moons ago, when Evergreen was still known as BBTC, then prez BJ asked then board members at the annual retreat to come up with a Big Vision of what the organization should be 5 years from then. Vice prez at the time jokingly said "World Domination by replacing IMBA", but in the end, we all agreed to shoot for making BBTC a state-wide, or event PNW-wide organization to represent MTBer's voices.

A lot of people were very skeptical of what BJ was doing back then to lay the ground for this vision, like hiring an executive director when we didn't even know how to pay for it the next year. But when I think of all the things that Evergreen is now - a very effective ED, communication specialist, paid crew leaders, new trails being built, state-wide alliances - all of these were part of the blueprint BJ dreamed up over 10 years ago.

Vision can be a really powerful tool if enough people believe in it...

Re: Evergreen East : Official Press Release

    That's good input brother Bruiser.

Thumbs up to Brian Jones and his retreats and everyone that has helped to scale the bbtc scrappers to emba players especially the dynamic duo Justin and Jon. We've got our back country and parks trailcrews working in harmony and I have no idea how working at the office is these days but I imagine world war 2 and tracers.

I do Love and respect imba but WA is best served by WA advocates and trail stewards.

Welcome to the machine brother Janz and east side heroes. Most respect.

Thanks! We're excited to be a part of Evergreen and it's amazing what EMBA has achieved! It's been a struggle at times but we have some good things on the horizon. New trails at Mt. Spokane and we're looking to become more involved at other locations as well. I've been most involved at Beacon Hill which we're continuing to develop. Recently we've been adding some new-school flow trail that I'm pretty excited about.
